Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
